Young Women Manual 3 Lesson 15: Blessings of the House of Israel

First I am so sorry this handout is late!!  I have a totally off week! I thought I had posted it!  But anyway, here it is!
This weeks lesson is "Blessings of the House of Israel"  This quote stood out to me in the lesson,

President Ezra Taft Benson said to the young women of the Church:

“My young sisters, we have such hope for you. We have such great expectations for you. Don’t settle for less than what the Lord wants you to be. …

“Give me a young woman who loves home and family, who reads and ponders the scriptures daily, who has a burning testimony of the Book of Mormon. … Give me a young woman who is virtuous and who has maintained her personal purity, who will not settle for less than a temple marriage, and I will give you a young woman who will perform miracles for the Lord now and throughout eternity” (Ensign, Nov. 1986, p. 84).

Oh how true it is the miracles that can performed by a young woman who honors herself, her Father  and his gospel.

Relief Society VT handout - January

Erika will be creating handouts each month to go along with the Visiting Teaching message for the month you can download the handout here!  You can get the visiting teaching message here.

The message for January is about Our History and the importance completing our visiting teaching each month.  Sister Beck  said  “A sister in this Church has no other responsibility outside of her family that has the potential to do as much good as does visiting teaching.”   Sister Thompson teaches that visiting teaching “is more a way of life than a task.”  We are encouraged to be friends of the sisters we visit to be there for them and help them when needed. If we are not friends with those sisters the Lord has asked us to visit how will they be able to come to us for the help they need.  Be friends with those you teach! 

Remember, we are not only blessing ourselves when we do our visiting teaching we bless those that we teach!

Callister, Joseph Smith - Prophet of the Restoration from the November 2009 Ensign. Except for the image of the First Vision, this is my custom design. The Young Women Manual 1 Lesson 45 is on The Value of Work.

I made this handout from scratch. It may not have all the color and flowers and frills that many of my previous handouts have, but I'll get them there through time. I followed a tutorial on making rocks, which I'm thrilled I was able to duplicate, and incorporated words taken from the lesson to "engrave" onto the rocks. Using both Illustrator and Photoshop, I made a handout all by myself. :) Yeah! I hope you like it!

The Young Women Manual 1 Lesson 44 is Using Time Wisely. I played around in Illustrator making this one from scratch. My version is very clear, but for some reason the words on these copies are not. I'm not sure why. Hopefully, they are still good to use.

The Young Women Manual 1 Lesson 43 is about Righteous Living. This is my first handout I made using Photoshop. Although I used another designers work, see reference below, I had to use the layers and photoshop techniques to arrange the elements, make the text boxes, and use gradients, noise, and shadows. It was a lot of fun.

The boy watching TV came from an lds clipart CD I had purchased in an LDS bookstore. Okay, I'm having way too much fun, now! I came across this idea during my research for the Young Women Manual 1 Lesson 34 on Worthy Thoughts for a monopoly and Young Womenopoly and it had my mental wheels turning and turning and I couldn't wait to do something with the idea. Many, many years ago I had made a monopoly themed Christmas family newsletter. In the spaces I had put things about our family from that year. Because I didn't have a color printer, yet - in fact, I don't think they were even a common household item at that time - I hand-colored 100 family newsletters that year.

So, now here is a YW themed monopoly handout! I've included a few extras, like a Monopoly Template, a square version of the YW monopoly board, in case you would like to use it someone during your lesson, and the Young Womenopoly handout. ENJOY!

I made the board game in Publisher, I used a scanned copy of a scrapbooking page I had purchased years ago - probably at Hobby Lobby, to make the background behind the quotes, and I used a program called "MyTypeArtist" to make the heading "Young Womenopolgy," which I later noticed has all of the YW value colors, not counting white and if you consider the pink to represent the purple. LOL! The clipart I have from clipart CD's I purchased years ago at an LDS bookstore, except the Earth and the Outer Darkness I found online at About.com. - Which I only used Outer Darkness to represent going to jail, but didn't use anything else negative because I wanted the whole idea to be more positive. :)
