This months visiting teaching message is Come to the Temple and Claim Your Blessings.

The Prophet Joseph often spoke to Relief Society sisters at their meetings. With the Nauvoo Temple under construction, the Prophet instructed the sisters in doctrine, preparing them to receive more knowledge through temple ordinances. In 1842 he said to Mercy Fielding Thompson that the endowment “will bring you out of darkness into marvelous light.” 

An estimated 6,000 Latter-day Saints received temple ordinances before the exodus from Nauvoo. President Brigham Young (1801–77) said, “Such has been the anxiety manifested by the saints to receive the ordinances [of the temple], and such the anxiety on our part to administer to them, that I have given myself up entirely to the work of the Lord in the Temple night and day, not taking more than four hours sleep, upon an average, per day, and going home but once a week.” The strength and power of temple covenants fortified the Saints as they left their city and temple for a journey into the unknown.

Here is April's Visiting Teaching Handout! To go with this months message!  If you don't get the Ensign you can find the message here!  This month's message is The Purpose of The Relief Society.  Sister Julie B Beck states in the first part of the message:

"To fulfill this purpose of Relief Society, the Lord has commissioned each sister and the organization as a whole to:

1. Increase in faith and personal righteousness.
   
2. Strengthen families and homes.
   
3. Provide relief by serving the Lord and His children.
   

We can do this work in the Lord’s way only when we seek, receive, and act on personal revelation. Without personal revelation, we cannot succeed. If we heed personal revelation, we cannot fail. The prophet Nephi instructs us that the Holy Ghost will show us “all things what [we] should do” (2 Nephi 32:5). We must allow ourselves to be still enough and quiet enough to listen to the voice of the Spirit."

I know that in this day and age we really need the help of our Sisters to make it.  The friendships, the sisterhood and the strength of fellow sisters. The ability to call on them when needed and know that someone is there when you need them the most!  It is so important to be a friend to your sisters.  As you help them build their spirit and they will in turn build yours!

A Restoration of All Things is the visiting teaching message for February 2011.

Julie B. Beck, Relief Society general president, taught: “Just as the Savior invited Mary and Martha of New Testament times to participate in His work, women of this dispensation have an official commission to participate in the Lord’s work. … The organization of Relief Society in 1842 mobilized the collective power of the women and their specific assignments to build the Lord’s kingdom.”

We accomplish our work as we focus on Relief Society’s purposes: to increase faith and personal righteousness, strengthen families and homes, and seek out and help those in need.

Erika will be creating handouts each month to go along with the Visiting Teaching message for the month you can download the handout here!  You can get the visiting teaching message here.

The message for January is about Our History and the importance completing our visiting teaching each month.  Sister Beck  said  “A sister in this Church has no other responsibility outside of her family that has the potential to do as much good as does visiting teaching.”   Sister Thompson teaches that visiting teaching “is more a way of life than a task.”  We are encouraged to be friends of the sisters we visit to be there for them and help them when needed. If we are not friends with those sisters the Lord has asked us to visit how will they be able to come to us for the help they need.  Be friends with those you teach! 

Remember, we are not only blessing ourselves when we do our visiting teaching we bless those that we teach!

July 2009 Visiting Teaching Handout

I just made this VT handout for the July message. Yes, I procrastinated and now I'm trying to make it up by making a cute handout to give to them.

I used some temple wedding paper by Ramona. She has a couple of blogs, but I cannot find where I originally found this paper. Maybe I mis-labeled the paper. So, to give proper credit to Ramona for her LDS products I'll post three of her blogs here... and, just maybe someone will provide me with the correct link :)
