Fall Bragbooks Page 01 FREEBIE

Hi everyone, I hope everyone is having a terrific day. Thanks for stopping by and taking a look around. Before we begin discussing today's download, I have something to share. I've been reading an amazing book called, "Help Me, I have A Teenager!!" by Annie Drake, MA, RN, CS, LMFT (that's a lot of credentials and I don't even know what most of them mean). I wish I had read this book back when my daughter was a 12 yo! It's excellent. I'm only 1/2 way through the second chapter and I've learned so, so much that I didn't realize. Some things I did know, but didn't have an explanation behind it. For instance, teenagers are emotional. I just didn't know what drove that high-emotional roller coaster. She is so great at explaining things, too. For instance, she uses a house to explain the adolescence process. There is a small house representative of childhood. It's secure and close to family and friends. They are young and innocent and receptive to our guidance and influence. It creates a strong foundation. Then, we look at the house of adulthood and it's sturdy, safe, predictable and consistent. But, the house of a teenager looks more like a construction site and that's because it is. The teen is in the process of reconstructing their childhood house into that of an adult house and the process is confusing and messy while they weed through unfamiliar territory between their inner child and the adult that is emerging. I know it sounds so familiar, as if I already knew that, but the way she has it explained really clicked for me. No wonder I was a basket case as a young person - I thought I was the only one! lol! She goes on to explain that a messy bedroom is reflective of this construction process and the chaos that is inside of their personality during this transition. The room will get cleaned as their personality comes together! Thank goodness! There's hope! Of course, she gives excellent advice on how to deal with that room in the meantime. She's very good at giving solid advise that one can actually follow in dealing with young people during this time of their life. I highly recommend this book.
