The Young Women Manual 3 lesson 05 is "Creating a Spiritual Environment in the Home"

As I read the lesson I thought about this story:

A 92-year-old, petite, well-poised and proud man, who is fully dressed each morning by eight o'clock, with his hair fashionably combed and shaved perfectly, even though he is legally blind, moved to a nursing home today.

His wife of 70 years recently passed away, making the move necessary. After  many hours of waiting patiently in the lobby of the nursing home, he smiled sweetly when told his room was ready. As he maneuvered his walker to the elevator, I provided a visual description of his tiny room, including the eyelet sheets that had been hung on his window. 'I love it,' he stated with the enthusiasm of an eight-year-old having just been presented with a new puppy.

Mr. Jones, you haven't seen the room; just wait.'

'That doesn't have anything to do with it,' he replied.

Happiness is something you decide on ahead of time. Whether I like my room or not doesn't depend on how the furniture is  arranged ... it's how I arrange my mind. I already decided to love it.
'It's a decision I make every morning when I wake up. I have a choice; I can spend the day in bed recounting the difficulty I have with the parts of my body that no longer work, or get out of bed and be thankful  for the ones that do.  Each day is a gift, and as long as my eyes open, I'll focus on the new day and all the happy memories I've stored away.. Just for this time in my life.

'Remember the five simple rules to be happy:
1. Free your heart from hatred.
2. Free your mind from worries.
3. Live simply.
4. Give more.
5. Expect less.

I really feel if we live this way we will invite the spirit of Our Heavenly Father into our homes and they will be a place He wants to dwell.

Young Women's Freebie~Manual 3 Lesson 3 "Living the Gospel Daily"

This weeks Young Woman's freebie is made using the kit Our Home you can find it here!  You can download the handout from here.  The lesson "Living The Gospel Daily" focuses on how each young woman will strive to feel close to the Lord in her daily life. It gives us ideas on how we can live our lives daily and ways to accomplish this. Included in this lesson are ways we live the gospel daily it lists love, prayer, service, obedience, study and work. 

I think the best way we can "Live the Gospel Daily" is to make sure we are following the words of the Prophet and living the commandments of Our Father in Heaven. If we are setting an example for the young women and even the children in our lives we will teach them by example!

Obedience. “One goal that most of us share in this life is the desire to achieve true joy and lasting happiness. There is only one way to do this, and that is by being obedient to all the commandments of God. … ‘When the Lord commands, do it,’ was a rule in the life of the first prophet of this dispensation. May that be the motto and practice of each of us” (Delbert L. Stapley, in Conference Report, Oct. 1977, pp. 26, 30; or Ensign, Nov. 1977, pp. 19, 21).
Study. “When we follow the counsel of our leaders to read and study the scriptures, benefits and blessings of many kinds come to us. … Where could there be more profitable use of time than reading from the scriptural library the literature that teaches us to know God and understand our relationship to him?” (Howard W. Hunter, in Conference Report, Oct. 1979, p. 91; or Ensign, Nov. 1979, p. 64).
Work. “Energetic, purposeful work leads to vigorous health, praiseworthy achievement, a clear conscience, and refreshing sleep. Work has always been a boon to man. May you have a wholesome respect for labor whether with head, heart, or hand” (Ezra Taft Benson, “Your Charge,” p. 44).

New Kit! Our Home

I have a new kit this week, Our Home. I think you're going to love this one! This kit was inspired by the interest to create a layout from all the pics I took of the last place we lived. It is all about displaying memories of your home. It's always fun to look at the pictures of places we once lived. This kit has one alpha, 42 elements (not counting the recolored additions), and 24 papers. It includes numerous tags for each area of the home and, just in case I missed one, I provided blank versions for each size I used. The television comes in three parts. One has a regular TV to use as normal and then separated into two sections: the TV with an empty box and the screen to place over it for a customized television show. Also included is a custom refrigerator, stove, washing machine, bed, lamp, upright piano, grand piano, in addition to a dresser, side-table, couch, chair and car to create multiple layouts of the entire home. Also included is an additional paper preview. There are two sets of quick pages, 12x12 and 8-1/2x11. Each set has nine PNG quick pages!
