I figured out Microsoft Word for those who don't have Publisher. Go to this website to download a template for Postcards for Word. Then, when the template is opened on your computer highlight the text in the first box, and insert the picture you want as your background into it's place. Repeat this for the remaining three spots. Then, go to the Insert menu and choose Text Box. Write your text and format it. Select the box and right click. Choose Format Text Box and choose No Color for both Fill Color and Line Color. When you have finished the handout, select the text box, and copy and past it over the other three backgrounds previously inserted into the template. Hope this helps.

How to make Handouts
A great way to make your own handouts for YW is to use a free blog background. A great resourse for that is Allie Browns Layouts where you'll find nearly a hundred different designs from which to choose. Simply click the link, or the layout, so that you get a large version. Right click and save it on your computer. Then open it up with your picture software, or insert the photo into Word - see below (I like Publisher, make it postcard size, and set it up to print four times onto one page) and add the text. Wahla! Your done.

The Purpose and Value of Education

The Young Women Manual 1 Lesson 46 is about the Purpose and Value of Education. I have so many school-themed digital elements I collected from The Blog Train's August Back-To-School collection that I couldn't help but use a variety of those to make this handout. A veteran home-school mom myself, my eye loves any school related fun stuff.

The Value of Work
The Young Women Manual 1 Lesson 45 is on The Value of Work.
I made this handout from scratch. It may not have all the color and flowers and frills that many of my previous handouts have, but I'll get them there through time. I followed a tutorial on making rocks, which I'm thrilled I was able to duplicate, and incorporated words taken from the lesson to "engrave" onto the rocks. Using both Illustrator and Photoshop, I made a handout all by myself. :) Yeah! I hope you like it!

Using Time Wisely

The Young Women Manual 1 Lesson 44 is Using Time Wisely. I played around in Illustrator making this one from scratch. My version is very clear, but for some reason the words on these copies are not. I'm not sure why. Hopefully, they are still good to use.

2010 Mutual Theme

I'm still learning Photoshop and decided to practice playing around with text by making 10 word arts for the 2010 Mutual Theme. They are all png graphics with transparent backgrounds zipped into one file for your downloading pleasure at 4Shared link below. All you need to do is insert the wordart into your choice of layout and you'll have many options! (Now I just need to figure out a better Preview box.)
4Shared
I am accepting requests, so feel free to send me some.... I could use some ideas and challenges. :)

Righteous Living

The Young Women Manual 1 Lesson 43 is about Righteous Living. This is my first handout I made using Photoshop. Although I used another designers work, see reference below, I had to use the layers and photoshop techniques to arrange the elements, make the text boxes, and use gradients, noise, and shadows. It was a lot of fun.

ITY Christlike Virtues

This weekend was General Conference for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. As always, it was fantastic. I can't say enough of the messages and spirit that was shared. They were truly inspired. In memory, I decided to make an ITY Christlike Virtues page. I used the Young Women value color representing Integrity. I know I've missed some of the virtues. I hope you like it. Feel free to share some more ITY virtues below.
Here it is in jpg.
