Avoiding Degrading Media Influences

The Young Women Manual 1 Lesson 33 is about Avoiding Degrading Influences. I made this one 1/2 page, 2 per page since there was a lot to fit onto it.

I would like to thank blog chez zaza for her scrap kit, "All A Girl Needs" offered on May 26, 2009 for most of this handout. The boy watching TV came from an lds clipart CD I had purchased in an LDS bookstore. The headphones and musical notes are from a kit called World of Music, where again I do not know who is the designer. If you do, then let me know and I'll give proper credit.

July 2009 Visiting Teaching Handout

I just made this VT handout for the July message. Yes, I procrastinated and now I'm trying to make it up by making a cute handout to give to them.

I used some temple wedding paper by Ramona. She has a couple of blogs, but I cannot find where I originally found this paper. Maybe I mis-labeled the paper. So, to give proper credit to Ramona for her LDS products I'll post three of her blogs here... and, just maybe someone will provide me with the correct link :)

I made the handout 5x7 because I have a photo magnet that I thought I would give them to place into their handout.

Have a great month!

Worthy Thoughts

Okay, I'm having way too much fun, now! I came across this idea during my research for the Young Women Manual 1 Lesson 34 on Worthy Thoughts for a monopoly and Young Womenopoly and it had my mental wheels turning and turning and I couldn't wait to do something with the idea. Many, many years ago I had made a monopoly themed Christmas family newsletter. In the spaces I had put things about our family from that year. Because I didn't have a color printer, yet - in fact, I don't think they were even a common household item at that time - I hand-colored 100 family newsletters that year.

So, now here is a YW themed monopoly handout! I've included a few extras, like a Monopoly Template, a square version of the YW monopoly board, in case you would like to use it someone during your lesson, and the Young Womenopoly handout. ENJOY!

Here is the handout in jpg.

Here is the game in square version (without quotes) in jpg.
Here is the Monopolgy Template in pdf. I know that this is probably not customizable, so if you want the publisher version emailed to you, then make a comment below and I'll send it to you.

I made the board game in Publisher, I used a scanned copy of a scrapbooking page I had purchased years ago - probably at Hobby Lobby, to make the background behind the quotes, and I used a program called "MyTypeArtist" to make the heading "Young Womenopolgy," which I later noticed has all of the YW value colors, not counting white and if you consider the pink to represent the purple. LOL! The clipart I have from clipart CD's I purchased years ago at an LDS bookstore, except the Earth and the Outer Darkness I found online at About.com. - Which I only used Outer Darkness to represent going to jail, but didn't use anything else negative because I wanted the whole idea to be more positive. :)

Personal Purity through Self-discipline

The Young Women Manual 1 Lesson 32 is on Personal Purity through Self-discipline. I had a little fun with this one, too. I had to delete a bunch of fun elements for driving because I was filling up the handout with all of them. It didn't look right. So, I had to choose a select few :(... I think it turned out okay. I used the idea from sugardoodle - A Journey of a 1000 Miles, with regard to the references to the street signs.

I used Hit The Road by Wild Dandelions for most of the handout. The street sign was called "SDS_WhyDontWe_StreetSign," but I can't figure out the designer. If you know, please share. :)One other element came from Ramona's Wish You Were Here blogtrain contribution. It's the sign blended into the yellow space to fill a gap.

Group Activities - A Basis For Wise Dating

The Young Women Manual 1 Lesson 31 is Group Activities - A Basis For Wise Dating.

I made this handout to be printed back to back. There are two per page because there is so much going on I didn't want it all to get lost in the smaller postcard size. The back side has 100 ideas for group activities. I had fun using different fonts to make it connect with the individual idea. I restrained myself from connecting each and every item with it's relative font :) I hope you like this one. I think it would be neat to do EVERYTHING on the list.

If you see any adjustments that I should make to this handout, please let me know. Sometimes after printing, some handouts look like some things should be changed to make it more clear.

I'm not sure who the designer of the background and the sport elements are. The file hasn't even been organized yet. It is still as I had unzipped it and all it says is Sports. There is no TOU at all. So, if you know who is the designer, I would love to give them credit.

Service

This quote is one of my very favorites. I'm thrilled to use it to make a handout for Young Women Manual 1 Lesson 30 on Service.

Picnic Invitation Templates

One of my favorite summer activities were the picnic outings we would have with church ladies and their kids. We would meet at the local park every Tuesday at noon for a picnic lunch and for the little ones to burn some energy. At the time we lived close enough to ride our bikes. Hmmmm, memories.

Thanks to Jonigray's JGD Picnic pack, I found some items that would make a perfect picnic handout or invite. So, I made a templates to share. First, I made the one with the redish background. Then, I thought how someone may not want to use up all their ink with the all color one, so I made another one with a white background. I'll provide both from which you can choose. Hope you like them.

Directions are below to guide you with using the handout in Word.

Here is red handout in jpg.
Here is the white handout in jpg.

DIRECTIONS:

Simply click the link for the jpg so that you get a large version. Right click and save it on your computer. Then open it up with your picture software, or insert the photo into Word - see below (I like Publisher, make it postcard size, and set it up to print four times onto one page and add the text. Wahla! Your done.)

For those who don't have Publisher, use Microsoft Word. Go to this website to download a template for Postcards for Word. Then, when the template is opened on your computer highlight the text in the first box, and insert the handout you just right-clicked and downloaded. Repeat this for the remaining three spots. Then, go to the Insert menu and choose Text Box. Write your text and format it. Select the box and right click. Choose Format Text Box and choose No Color for both Fill Color and Line Color. When you have finished the handout, select the text box, and copy and past it over the other three backgrounds previously inserted into the template.

Second Coming

I made the handout for the Young Women Manual 1 Lesson 29 on The Second Coming using the color gold. This goes along with Virtue, which seems to coordinate well with the message of the lesson and the reference of royalty.

I would like to thank the designer who created these compenants called "Life is a Banquet Blog Train." There was no TOU or any reference to the designer in the download. If you know who it is, please let me know and I'll properly credit her and add a link to her site.

Resisting Sin

I Would like to thank Russian-Dutch Heart Design for her Set Sail kit I used to make this YW handout. (Scroll almost to the end of the post - past all the links she provides - to find the kit.)

I was released as YW President two weeks ago. That is why I was trying to get ahead with the handouts. I'm still making them because I absolutely love to do so.

I've made an important decisions with my life, too. I've been seriously contemplating for almost a year what I want to be when I grow up. Since I'm 36 I thought it would be time to get serious about it. I've contemplated psychology and family therapy, both I would be good. I entertained some sort of medical field or business administration. I wouldn't be happy with the medical field and the MBA isn't going to be my cup of lemonade.

Funny thing, though, is that with every decision I made I was concerned if whether or not I would have time to make things. I love to sit down and make these handouts and throughout the years I've enjoyed making a half a dozen websites, four years worth of newsletters for Relief Society, and almost a year's worth of Food Storage Newsletters. With the end of each project I am always anxious to look for my next project. I have many ideas and would love to make them a reality. I finally solidified my decision to get into graphic/digital design. I had considered it a few times before, but crossed it off the list because I want to do something where my life and skills makes a difference in like helping people. This is why I had contemplated the medical field, an MBA, or even family therapy. On further thought, I believe I could still be useful with design.

My passion is with making things and I'm sure there would be a way for me to make a difference. The ideal way would be to through the Church working with their magazines. Either way, I wouldn't have to worry about not being able to make things because it would be my vocation, as well as provide me with the skills to do make a reality all the ideas that run through my head, but lack the skill. So, I think that I finally have decided what to be when I grow up. I may have to start before I grow up, though, 'cause I'm not sure how long that will take. LOL!

The Young Women Manual 1 Lesson 28 is about Resisting Sin. Being prepared ahead of time is half the battle with resisting sin. I'm glad this lesson is being taught.

I've also started saving my digital design freebies differently. Now I save them with the designers name of website or blog, even if I have to open their TOU to find it, then the name of the item(s) I downloaded. That does a few things. It places in order all the items that they make together, even when I divide them by paper, type of element, frame, etc, and gives me the information I need to credit them when I use their products.
